1 Beyond Archive Products Now Shipping With LTO-7
BOSTON, MA March 16, 2016 – 1 Beyond is now shipping LTO archive products with LTO-7 drives. With LTO-7, the 7th generation of LTO technology, users can now write 6TB of data to a tape at speeds of 270 MB/sec. That is more than double the tape cartridge capacity from LTO-6 and allows users to write more to tape faster than a standard hard drive.
1 Beyond offers single drive and dual drive products in addition to a Tape Library solution and offers asset management software to keep track of what files are on what tape. 1 Beyond’s products featuring LTO-7 drives are the ThunderTape, NetDrive, the Wrangler 4K-Safe and the EZStor Tape Library.
LTO (Linear Tape Open) digital tape is the video industry’s standard for longer term archiving of digital video, project files, graphics, etc. It is also the standard medium for video delivery of program content to major networks including Discovery, Comedy Central and HBO.
“It is the most cost-effective and secure backup medium for data,” said Rony Sebok, VP at 1 Beyond.
The LTO Ultrium format is a powerful, scalable, adaptable open tape format developed and continuously enhanced by technology providers HP, IBM Corporation and Quantum Corporation. LTO and the LTFS file system are industry standards supported by the major tapedrive manufacturers with software for Mac, Windows and Linux. Any tape made today will be readable cross-platform with a 30-year roadmap.
“This is a great time for people who want to migrate their LTO-5 archives to the current standard LTO-7,” said Jeff Berkembrock, Technology Director at 1 Beyond. LTO-7 can write LTO-6 and LTO-7 tapes in addition to being able to read LTO-5,6, and 7 tapes.
